Foreign-Beer Hall

712 Third Ave., nr. 45th St.; 212-867-2337 New York’s Teutonic infatuation still runs rampant, with bratwursts and beer steins clanking everywhere from Harlem (Bier International) to Greenpoint (Spritzenhaus) to midtown, where the unimaginatively named Bierhaus trumps its competitors in authentic Bavarian-ness. By 6 p.m., the skylighted communal tables are packed with off-duty office workers hefting colossal mugs of lagers, wheat beers, and bocks, all delivered by waitresses in dirndls. To fortify your stomach while emptying two-liter glass boots, there’s fresh-baked pretzels, platters of wurst and sauerkraut, and, of course, Wiener schnitzel.
